Cookie policy

1. What is a Cookie

A cookie is a small-sized file, consisting of numbers and letters, which is saved in your browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Chrome, Mozilla, Safari) when you access a website and stored on your computer, phone, tablet, or any other device used to access the site.

A cookie consists of two parts: the name and the content or value of the cookie. Its existence has a set duration. Technically, only the web server that sent the cookie can access it again when the user returns to the associated website. Practically, each time the site is accessed afterward, the browser sends this file to the website's server, allowing the identification of a returning visitor. Cookies are used for traffic analysis and/or performance of the monitored website accessed by the visitor. Cookies generate a user-friendly browsing experience tailored to each user's preferences and interests. These files allow websites to remember and store useful information about a user's preferences and can contain personal data (like a history of visited pages, user identification code, personalized preferences). For specific information related to the processing and protection of personal data by S.C. Macromex S.R.L., you can consult the section on Personal Data Protection Policy at www.la-strada.com/politica-privind-protectia-datelor-cu-caracter-personal/. In conclusion, a cookie is installed by a request issued by the user's web browser and is completely "passive" (it does not contain software programs, viruses or spyware, and cannot access information on the user's hard drive). Cookies do not ask for personal information, and in most cases, do not personally identify internet users. Although cookies are stored in the memory of the user's internet device, they cannot access/read other information in that computer/device. Cookies are not compiled as code and cannot be executed. Thus, they cannot self-replicate, cannot spread in other networks to generate actions, and cannot be used to spread viruses.

Types of Cookies

There are 2 major categories of cookies:

  • Session Cookies – are temporarily stored in the browser's history, which keeps them until the user leaves the site or closes the browser window (e.g., when logging in/out of an account).
  • Persistent Cookies – are stored on a computer/device's hard drive and are not deleted when the browsing session is closed (and generally depend on the pre-set lifespan of the cookie). Persistent cookies include those placed by a different website than the one the user is currently visiting – known as third-party cookies (cookies placed by third parties) – which can be used anonymously to remember a user's interests, so as to deliver the most relevant advertising to users.
